So here is where I am regarding shooting timelapse sequences.
For normal static, slider or pan sequences I shoot in raw. However, if I'm shooting into the sun either directly or partially (start/end of slider or pan) I shoot hdr jpeg. If I'm shooting day-to-night or night-to-day sequence I connect a TP-Link to my D7000 and control the sequence with the qDslrDashboard app on my iPad, which works extremely well (especially with the LRTimelapse4 processing software). I also have timelapse+ device which also gives good results but I'm still trying to find where best to use it.
